Empowering Through Movement: SISU Launches Fitness & Exercise Classes for Youth
On Monday, April 14, SISU Empowering Others kicked off a brand-new Fitness & Exercise Class in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club, bringing movement, mindfulness, and community engagement to local youth. The session, facilitated by certified fitness instructor Alvin, focused on yoga and walking groups, offering a safe and supportive space for all fitness levels to thrive.
This program is part of SISU’s ongoing mission to promote holistic well-being for young people in our community. Each weekly class is carefully designed to emphasize flexibility, mobility, and low-impact exercise, helping youth develop healthy habits while supporting their physical and emotional well-being.
From the moment participants stepped onto their mats, Alvin created an atmosphere of calm energy and positivity. Guided breathing exercises and gentle stretches allowed the youth to connect with their bodies and minds in ways many had never experienced before. The walking group provided an opportunity to enjoy movement at a comfortable pace while socializing with peers and practicing mindfulness.
And the response? Nothing short of amazing.
We were deeply moved to receive this heartfelt message from Winston at the Boys & Girls Club:
“Thank you for the invitation! By the way, I heard the kids have been enjoying the sessions. They definitely enjoyed yesterday’s. Thank you for providing such great programming to the community.”
This feedback reminds us that small moments of movement can lead to big moments of impact. For many of these kids, this is more than a fitness class—it’s a space to feel seen, supported, and capable.
As SISU continues to build a village of community-based programming, our Fitness & Exercise Classes are one more way we’re empowering youth to thrive—one stretch, one breath, one step at a time.
