Understanding Emotions Through Art: A SISU Mental Health Workshop at Boys & Girls Club
At SISU Empowering Others, we believe that mental wellness starts with self-awareness—and that even the youngest minds can begin to understand and express what they feel in powerful ways. This week, our team hosted an engaging and heartfelt class at the Boys & Girls Club, focusing on mental health, stress management, and emotional awareness.
During the session, children explored the question: "Where do you feel your emotions in your body?" Using a creative and therapeutic activity, they were encouraged to color in different parts of the body to represent where they feel happiness, sadness, anger, or stress. For example, some participants colored their hearts for happiness, heads for stress, or fists for anger—offering a unique window into their emotional experiences.
This class wasn't just fun and artistic—it was meaningful. The children learned that:
It's okay to feel a range of emotions
Emotions can be identified and understood
Everyone feels things differently, and that's valid
Mental health matters just as much as physical health
By the end of the class, the room was filled with colorful silhouettes and even more colorful conversations about feelings. We were so proud to see each youth participate with openness, curiosity, and joy.
SISU’s mission is to empower individuals through education, connection, and support—and this workshop was a beautiful reminder that empowerment begins young. We’re grateful to the Boys & Girls Club for allowing us to be a part of their programming and look forward to continuing these important conversations about emotional well-being.
